Landlord & Tenant

We provide advice to all those with an interest in farmland.

This might be through the provision of a simple grazing licence; to the letting of a Farm; the preparation of a Farm Business Tenancy (FBT); the handling of an “1986 Act” rent review or perhaps a complex succession case.

Although we act for many landowners and indeed landlords; a specialism has undoubtedly been forged working on behalf of the tenanted sector. In 2009 the Tenant Farmer’s Association (TFA) appointed Richard onto their panel of Recommended Professionals for the North East.

A further specialism in this area of work is the preparation of rental tenders and the firm is pleased to report considerable success in securing a number of tenancies in what is always an extremely competitive market.

Compulsory Purchase & Compensation

We have considerable experience in dealing with various Utility Companies such as the Highways Agency, Northumbrian Water Ltd and Northern PowerGrid.  We handle all aspects of compensation claims where properties have been affected by road schemes or work on water and gas pipelines, pylons, and electricity cables.

Typically, this work can range from a small crop loss claim through to large injurious affection claims where a farm steading may have been impacted by road widening.

In all of the above instances, our fees for acting on the client's behalf have been met by the Utility Company.

Planning & Development

Something of a specialism, we now handle a large number of planning applications throughout the year.

We have in depth knowledge and experience of all matters related to rural planning including Farm Buildings, Barn Conversions and Agricultural Workers Dwellings.

In addition to applications, we are also happy to handle planning hearings and appeals when necessary.
